Project Highlight: Atherton Hill
The clients came to us with a dream of a new Passive House, but the project morphed very quickly into a renovation when the right property (down the street from a brother) came onto the market. The renovation of this 1815 home became a Deep Energy Retrofit as we explored all the options available. As with all retrofits, compromises abound - how do you air seal a floor assembly you can’t even see from below, thanks to 12”-18” clearances to raw earth? Very carefully.

Project Progress: Petersham Family’s Home Renovation
In Petersham, we're excited to help a family envision their renovation project, addressing frustrations with tight ceiling spaces and limited daylight. During the early phases of schematic design, we utilize rolls of trace paper to explore various design options that optimize space. Our focus includes creating a functional mudroom to ease the entry threshold into the kitchen and mapping the flow around the living and dining spaces. These quick sketches are valuable tools, allowing the family to visualize their spaces better and make informed decisions about their home transformation. Stay tuned as we bring these ideas to life in 2025.
Project Progress: Phoenix Nest
We recently visited Phoenix Nest and were thoroughly impressed with the outstanding work (and for braving the cold!) of our friends at Mathes Hulme Builders. Based in Brattleboro, VT, they are the driving forces behind this exceptional construction firm that aligns perfectly with the values we hold dear at Graphite Studio. Mathes Hulme Builders has been our longest working partner since the early days of Graphite Studio, and we deeply appreciate the collaborative spirit and shared vision that has made our partnership such a success.
